What should you do to stop dieting?

I wrote an article on how to maintain weight loss after dieting.
I would like any comments. Was it an accurate way to stop dieting?

Thanks :)

The most important thing is to mention lifestyle change straight away. Although you are writing an article about post-diet life, it’s important to remember that the only way that people are going to maintain their target weight is to realise it was not a good thing to diet in the first place and not to fall into this trap in the future.

Tell them that to keep the weight off, they need to eat the correct proportion of nutrition within the amount of calories they consume. As what you consume plays the most important role in Weight Management, this information is vital! It’s not useful to say that they should increase their calorie intake by 250 calories at the beginning, if that 250 calories is from “empty” calories such as bread or potatoes. A diet rich in complex carbs (such as brown bread, oatmeal, barley and rye NOT white bread, pasta, potatoes or white rice btw) , lean proteins (especially fish) and fruits/ vegetables is the best way to maintain or lose weight.

Also, tell people to stop counting calories. Can you imagine spending your whole life looking at every single piece of information on every single pack of food? Instead, tell them to learn what is good for them from sound nutritionally information – eventually, they will recognise the correct foods to buy (and which ones to avoid) and how much they should be eating at each sitting.

Otherwise, I think the rest of your article is very good!

Diets and dieting have concerned – and sometimes obsessed – human societies for centuries. The dieters” regime is about many things, among them the control of weight and the body, the politics of beauty, discipline and even self-harm, personal and societal demands for improved health, spiritual harmony with the universe, and ethical codes of existence. In this innovative reference work that spans many periods and cultures, the acclaimed cultural and medical historian Sander L. Gilman lays out the history of diets and dieting in a fascinating series of articles.
