Your Questions About Best Detox Diet

Carol asks…

Need a good detox diet?

I know about the “lemonade diet/Master Cleanse” and not a fan. I’ve also heard about the Martha’s Vineyard Detox – 21lbs in 21 days, but not getting the best reviews on that … the one I think I may be interested in is “The New Detox Diet” by Dr. Haas. Anyone heard of it, tried it, or have any recommendations for other detoxes that are not harmful to the body & that are effective?

Thanks.

Cindy answers:

During the 9 days, you will want to focus on the following:

-Break your meals down to 5 smaller meals.

-No meat! For protein, eat Chickpeas, beans, Lentils
-No potatoes
-As much water as you want: DRINK A LOT!
-As much fruit as you want
-As many vegetables as you want
-Allowed two 1 cup servings of brown rice a day
-Allowed 2 cups of low fat milk a day
-2 – 6oz servings of low fat yogurt a day
-Up to 4 egg whites a day
-2 cups of herbal tea a day ( I recommend Green Tea)
-All items can be seasoned to taste.
-NO SODA Diet or Regular.

Now the key to the above is to be creative and keep it all natural. Egg whites can be whipped up to make scrambled or even added to your veggies.

As for the brown rice, I found it best to flavor it and to let it cook long enough to make it tender. My suggestion on the brown rice is to sauté white onion and garlic in a small amount of olive oil, add the brown rice after a few minutes(let it sweat, while slowly stirring), then add the water as directed on the box(I always add a little bit more) and then I add a low salt flavoring. I also make the whole box/bag at one time and then put 1 cup servings of the rice into plastic containers for a quick reheat at a later time.

9 days seems like an eternity. If you are a caffeine addict, the caffeine headaches will set in quickly and can last 3-7 days. Fight the urge of the caffeine. Try the herbal tea, while it does contain caffeine, it is a slight different form and with the anti-oxidants, it will help you with the headaches and keeping your body cleansed from harmful ingredients in regular sodas.

Bottom line on the detox. You are steering clear of foods with added ingredients and names none of us can pronounce. You are cleansing your body of excess waste and allowing the digestive system to rest because it is not having to fight the processing of meats.

Happy detoxing!

Sandra asks…

I need a good detoxing diet? Im feeling very bloated and want to feel better?

I feel very bloated all of a sudden and thought it was best to do a quick fix detox diet?

Does anyone know any good ones that help you de-bloat?

Kay.

Cindy answers:

For a few days, limit your sodium to 500 mg or less. Don’t do this for more than a few days, maybe five ish. Drink half of your body weight in ounces of water. After you are done with the low sodium days, transition into a healthy, CLEAN diet and eliminate processed foods (even if they are fat free!). Trust me you will feel SO much better. Make sure you are sweating (if you don’t feel like exercising–shame on you–then just go to a sauna). Salt is what makes you feel bloated, and when you sweat, you release salt. (Yes people, of course when you drink water you will replenish the weight lost in the sauna but the idea is to remove the salt from the processed garbage you’ve been putting in your body.) Trust me I have a lot of experience with bloating!

Eat lots of fruit such as apples and oranges. These are virtually sodium free and the fiber will NOT make you bloated but will clean you out.

Good luck :o )
