Your Questions About Body Detox Diet Weight Loss

Robert asks…

Weight loss advice needed?

I have been trying to lose weight now for over 8mos. I have always been extremely underweight all my life and then the past year my weight has gone up. I used to weigh 100lbs, now I am at 155lbs. I am 5’6″. I DO NOT want to be that thin again, my goal is like 120lbs-125lbs. I have no insurance and the last time I could afford to go to the doctor my blood test showed very low potassium and sodium. Diabetes and hypothyroid run in my family. I show signs of both. I have ZERO energy anymore, I’m cold all the time, dry skin, my legs swell so bad, etc.! When I wake up they are thin and by the end of the day they are 4x their size! I revamped my diet, worked with a trainer/nutritionist for the past 6 mos and I have not lost anything! I’m SO lost-I don’t know what to do! I can’t afford a doctor, let alone get blood test, PLUS if I do have either the medicine! I was thinking about trying like a detox or cleanse, maybe even trying slim quick’s drink mixes? I have to lose some weight-my back kills all the time! I know its because my body isn’t used to the extra weight! I even got a puppy (not just because of the excerise) but we go on long walks all the time! I’ve changed up my routine, my diet, everything! UGH I am so mad and I don’t know what to do, i work out 2hours a day but the past week I just have given up! Please advice!

Cindy answers:

This must be so frustrating for you! From what you’ve said here it really sounds like you may have a medical issue. You have the symptoms of hypothyroidism but it doesn’t mean you have it. I have all the classic symptoms but my blood tests always come up clean. If you go to “about.com” you may find some safe naturopathic remedies and diet ideas. Stay away from doing any drastic without a proper diagnosis though.

Assuming that you don’t have a medical issue, check to see if:
1) you are eating regularly. 5 smaller meals a day does a lot to increase your metabolism and help you feel full
2) you are taking a multi-vitamin every day
3) choose foods that have a good source of potassium i.e. Bananas
4) you are not feeling famished or going too hungry
5) you are not skipping meals.
6) consider following a diabetic diet, which is really great for cutting down on the extra sugars.

I know the joint pain etc you can get with too much weight, so do your best to stay strong and consider some added strength training to your routine. When you find yourself in a lot of pain it’s hard to stay mobile. Do what you can to keep moving but avoid excersizes that make it worse.

I hope this helps a bit. It sounds like you’ve got a complicated problem. I strongly urge you to squirrel away your money so that you can get some better medical advice.
Good luck!

P.S. Avoid diets that promise more than a safe 2lbs per week. Drastic rapid loss diets tend to create a yo-yo effect that is difficult to recover from. Especially with your added potential health issues, you could put yourself at risk.

Michael asks…

Please help me with my weight loss………?

As far as I can remember, I have had issues with my weight! I was born a really fat baby but when I was 9 years old (and my family migrated to france), my mom made me jump rope everyday and do simple housework around our home and I beacame really slim, extremely slim for that matter. At 11 years, I returned back to New York and everyone was so amazed, they were asking my family what miracle had happened(i was a really obese kid you see). But then, I slowly and surely have begun to regain all that weight back again and right now, suffice to say that I am EXTREMELY OVERWEIGHT!!! I am 70 pounds overweight for my height but thankfully i don’t look that overweight in my appearance. But still, I know that my weight is way off the healthy range. I have treid everything, crash diets, fad diets, exercise, numerous gym memberships, detox, cleansing, body wraps everything! But in all these instances, I would stick to it at the beginning but then lose the zeal and motivation for it. What do i do?
I have reached the stage where I really loathe myself but just as much as I hate the excess pounds, I can’t for the hell of me seem to stick with and be MOTIVATED to lose weight!!! What te hell is wrong with me??? I have even contemplated suicide one day after being way too exhausted with my efforts and having no results……

Cindy answers:

Hey there hun,
First off, I need to tell you very clearly that you are SPECIAL and a wonderful person!!! I was awfully shocked to hear that you were contemplating suicide!!! What’s up with that? I understand you are frustrated and feel like giving up but taking your own life is not the solution to anything. I have never had problems with my weight, granted, but that does not mean I don’t have problems in other areas of my life. Just because you are obese, it doesn’t mean you are a social outcast or anything, there are many others trying to battle against it too. I belive God has given everyone their fair share of problems, they are there not to frustrate us and make us give up but for us to become stronger, wiser and better by overcoming them!! Your problem in life might be weight loss, the problem in my life is the lack of punctuality and procastination. You see, we all have our vices! But we must fight on, persevere on and NOT GIVE UP!!!
Now, there is this soultion I am trying to help with my vice of being a tad bit lazy when it comes to studying (thats my vice)…….the solution is this, I keep a motivation book, in it I list all the reasons I have to do what I have to do and stick with my resolutions, go ahead and add in some pictures as well, I have added a graduation day pic and underneath it, I wrote, I want to graduate with first class honours, then every day, i flip through that book and let me tell you, it has done wonders for me, nothing like getting your goals in focus. Why don’t you try the same too? I want to lose weight because…..”God created me to be slim, I want to wear cute clothes and feel good about myself, I want to meet an awmazing guy and for that, I must first look amazing….etc etc” People might be a bit rude and make fun of you but guess what, you will be having the last laugh when you get your slim amazing gorgeous body!! I know you will. And if it makes you feel any better, I will be keeping you in my prayers!! Take care of yourself, Annabelle(i think you have a beautiful name!) and have a good one!!!

Betty asks…

Is a detox beneficial in any way?

or does it do more harm than good and is just a fad.

NOT for weight loss but for flushing out toxins / cleansing the body.

The one I have looked at is the raw food ‘diet‘.

Cindy answers:

Be careful, you don’t wanna over do anything…you fine
